It Takes a Village is a mixed-media stop-motion short created to reflect the emotional complexity and loneliness of early motherhood. Combining handcrafted sets, puppets, and animation in After Effects, the piece uses metaphor and tactile visuals to highlight the quiet struggle parents often experience behind the scenes.
As a mom of four, this project let me channel real emotion and lived experience into my art. It reminded me that storytelling doesn’t need to be flashy—it needs to be true.
This was my most personal and rewarding project to date—and went on to win two school awards for its concept and execution.
